Shrink Film
Grafix Shrink Film Instructions Black, White, Matte or
Clear Trace, Draw or Rubber Stamp: Trace a design by placing the
Grafix Shrink Film over the pattern (you will have to draw/stamp your design
directly onto the Black/White Grafix Shrink Film). For tracing, use a fine or
extra-fine line marking pen, pencil or brush. When using marking pens, it=s suggested that you color the
fill areas first and then outline to prevent smearing. Coloring: We suggest that you test colors
for permanency on a scrap piece of film first. Apply color using water-based acrylic paints, permanent
markers, pencils/pens, ink or heat set paints/ink. Lightly sand (up and down
& back and forth) the Grafix Shrink Film before creating your design, for
lasting color when rubber stamping designs or on designs that will be washed or
used often. Use a fine sand paper (280 grit to 320 grit). Roughing up the
surface by sanding adheres the color to the Grafix Shrink Film. COLORS WILL
INTENSIFY AS FILM SHRINKS. Matte film, when baked becomes a milky white in
color. Cutting: ALWAYS CUT BEFORE SHRINKING. Grafix Shrink Film is easily and
quickly cut with ordinary scissors and craft knives. Holes can be punched with
a paper punch. **Punch holes prior to baking** Baking: Use either a conventional oven or
a toaster oven - DO NOT USE A MICROWAVE. Pre-heat the oven to 400NF, Please note oven temperatures
may vary and we suggest you use an oven thermometer. Try a test piece to
determine the length of time for baking. Place cut out Grafix Shrink Film on a
clean piece of cardboard or an old non-stick baking sheet, to protect baking
sheets you can cover with parchment paper (some inks will leave a residue while
baking). Bake for only 1- 2 minutes. Grafix Shrink Film will go through 2
stages while baking, first it will curl and then it will flatten out. Your
finished Grafix Shrink Film project will be affected by your oven temperature
and baking time giving you an uniquely shaped personalized design. Some baking tips: <
Since
all ovens vary, we suggest you try different temperatures (275N to 400NF) and vary the length of baking
time for example at 275NF it takes 2-4 minutes while at 400NF it takes only 1-2 minutes. <
Watch
while you bake to determine what temperature and length of time works best with
your oven. <
Curling
is minimized by placing a piece of heavy weight vellum or parchment paper over
the piece while baking. It will reduce chances of it sticking to itself during
the curling phase. <
Use
an old or covered spatula to flatten the piece immediately after removing from
the oven if still curled. <
When
baked, Grafix Shrink Film will shrink to about 2 its original size and will get thicker. Please supervise children in the
cutting and baking stages.
